About Me
Russ Wilcox (b. 1979) grew up in Southern California and moved to Indiana to attend Purdue University’s School of Pharmacy. While at Purdue, he played trumpet in Purdue’s bands and began composing after taking an introductory music theory course. After graduating from Purdue, he decided to further his education in music and enrolled in the school of music at Ball State University. He has studied composition with Dr. Frank Felice, Dr. Jody Nagel, Dr. Michael James Olson, Dr. Amy Kaplan, Dr. Eleanor Trawick, and Dr. Keith Kothman.
As a performer, Wilcox remains active as a trumpet player in and around the Indianapolis area. He has played second trumpet, third trumpet, and assistant principal trumpet with the Hendricks Symphony Orchestra and was the principal trumpet of the Ball State Symphony Band. He has studied trumpet with Paul Everett and Dr. Brittany Hendricks.
In his spare time he works as a staff pharmacist at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis and enjoys spending time with his family. He currently lives in Carmel, Indiana with his wife Julie, his daughter Victoria, his two dogs Chloe and Arthur Fonzarelli, and his indifferent cat Chuck.
